Golden Globe Nominations!

Here are the much anticipated Golden Globes nominations. Overall I am SUPER happy. Here they are, and my thoughts:

BEST PICTURE DRAMA
The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button
Frost/Nixon
The Reader
Revolutionary Road
Slumdog Millionaire

thoughts: Shockingly Milk was left off and Reader was added on. Also surprising they didnt add Doubt, which got quite a few nominations all around. Since its the Globes I think I will predict Benjamin Button to win. (at this point)

BEST PICTURE COMEDY/MUSICAL
Burn After Reading
Happy Go Lucky
In Bruges
Mamma Mia
Vicky Cristina Barcelona

thoughts: This is overall a good list. I am surprised they didnt nominate Sex in the City, as it is a television crossover. I would hope the winner would be Burn, Happy Go Lucky, or Vicky Christina Barcelona.

BEST DIRECTOR
Danny Boyle, Slumdog Millionaire
Stephen Daldry, The Reader
David Fincher, Ben Button
Ron Howard, Frost/Nixon
Sam Mendes, Revolutionary Road

thoughts: This is looking like the list that may be read at Oscar nomination time. No complaints here, expect Fincher, Mendes, or a surprise from Boyle to win.

BEST ACTOR DRAMA
Leo DiCaprio, Revolutionary Road
Frank Langella, Frost/Nixon
Sean Penn, Milk
Brad Pitt, Benjamin Button
Mickey Rourke, The Wrestler

thoughts: Richard Jenkins was left off, and surprisingly so was Clint Eastwood. All this allowed Leonardo and Brad to slip in, which I think is a nice surprise. Neither have a shot of winning though, it will come down to Penn and Rourke, as will the oscars.

BEST ACTRESS DRAMA
Anne Hathaway, Rachel Getting Married
Angelina Joie, Changeling
Meryl Streep, Doubt
Kristin Scott Thomas, I’ve Loved you So Long
Kate Winslet, Revolutionary Road

thoughts: The independant slot went to Kristin over Melissa Leo, which I think solidifies her Oscar nomination. Thank goodness Jolie was listed on the shortlist, as I thought she was fantastic. Meryl and Kate are both double nominees and sadly I think will cancel each other out. Look for Anne Hathaway to take the win.

SUPPORTING ACTOR
Tom Cruise, Tropic Thunder
Robert Downey Jr. Tropic Tunder
Ralph Fiennes, The Duchess
Philip Seymour Hoffman, Doubt
Heath Ledger, The Dark Knight

thoughts: this is the catagory that got messed up the most. TOM CRUISE? Honestly, he was barely in the movie and you cannot tell me that he is more deserving than Josh Brolin, James Franco, or Emile Hirsch from Milk. No way. Milk gets shut out though, as the globes nominate two people from Tropic Thunder. The other surprise is Ralph. However I would be shocked if Heath didnt win .. he will.

SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Amy Adams, Doubt
Penelope Cruz, Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Viola Davis, Doubt
Marisa Tomei, The Wrestler
Kate Winslet, The Reader

thoughts: A fantastic list! VERY excited to see Amy Adams nominated, this could be just the push that she needs for Oscar! Also really glad Marisa got into it as well. It all comes down to Penelope and Viola - but I think Penelope will win here.

BEST ACTOR COMEDY
Javier Bardem, Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Colin Farrel, In Bruges
James Franco, Pineapple Express
Brendan Gleason, In Bruges
Dustin Hoffman Last Chance Harvey\

thoughts: Good list. Dustin Hoffman wins, easily.

BEST ACTRESS COMEDY
Rebecca Hall, Vicky Cristina
Sally Hawkins, Happy-Go-Lucky
Frances McDormand, Burn After Reading
Meryl Streep, Mamma Mia
Emma Thompson, Last Chance Harvey

thoughts: Meryl has a better show winning here, however she will face her biggest challenge from Sally Hawkins who I think will be a surprise winner here.

BEST FOREIGN FILM
The Baader Meinhof Complex (Germany)
Everlasting Moments (Sweden)
Gomorrah (Italy)
I’ve Loved You So Long
Waltz with Bashir

thoughts: They showed Kristin Scott Thomas some love in the actress catagory but this will all come down to Gomorrah or Waltz with Bashir. I think Bashir has the edge.

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE
Bolt
Kung Fu Panda
Wall-E

thoughts: Wall-E of course.

SCREENPLAY
Slumdog Millionaire
The Reader
Frost/Nixon
Benjamin Button
Doubt

thoughts: Slumdog will take this award.

Score
Benjamin Button
Changeling
Defiance
Slumdog Millionaire
Frost/Nixon

Song
Down to Earth, Wall-E
Gran Torino
I thought I Lost You, Bolt
Once in a Lifetime, Cadillac Record
