Daily Amy: New and GREAT Interview

Amy Winehouse took some time off from her vacation in St. Lucia to give an interview to newsoftheworld.co.uk. And for once, its an uplifting happy Amy. What a great interview! Here is the article in full:

Dressed in her familiar holey black vest, hotpants and no shoes, Amy Winehouse swings her bare feet onto a chair on the hotel’s terrace and says:
“I love it here and have never felt so happy. In fact I don’t think I’m ever going home. I was supposed to go last week but I thought fuck that, I’m staying! Especially as I met Josh here. He couldn’t be more different from my husband, which is not a bad thing. Blake looks like me, a right mess. But Josh is all handsome and clean and that’s what I love about him. People might think we haven’t got anything in common but I get on like a house on fire with all his family despite them being so posh. When I’m with Josh I don’t need drugs to feel good because he makes me feel so amazing.”
She then leans forward and whispers cheekily: “We just had sex. . . can’t you tell?” And, in one of the rare moments she ever mentions her husband, Amy reveals: “Blake was rubbish in bed. Do you know what? Almost every time I slept with him it was like I was dead. I don’t know what’s going on with us now and for the time being I’ve just forgotten I’m even married. I’m just here on my own, happy and having a good time with Josh. I’ll deal with Blake when I get back. But our whole marriage was based on doing drugs. So being with someone like Josh is much better for me.”

Leaning back and drawing deep on one of the endless Marlboro Light cigarettes she scrounges off hotel guests, Amy adds: “Before I came out here I looked at a photo of myself in the newspaper and was horrified. My skin was a spotty mess and I was so pale and skinny. I thought to myself, ‘Girl, you got to sort yourself out or you’ll be dead soon.’ I was depressed, doing drugs and had no life in me at all. Coming here has changed everything. We’re having a great time together along with all Josh’s family and friends and I just don’t want the holiday to end. Home is hell for me. I’ve escaped from it. There are drugs everywhere. I can’t do anything without everyone thinking I’m off my head on drugs, although half the time they were right, I WAS. But here I feel so calm and peaceful and for the first time I can definitely say I AM off the drugs. I haven’t touched anything since I arrived and I feel the best I have in years.”

Amy then adds: “It’s like I’ve stepped onto a new planet and nothing can harm me here. At home I seem to get in with the wrong people and just get myself in trouble. Yes I’ve been getting pissed drunk here but, compared to the states I get into back in London, this is the best behaved I’ve been in years. That’s why I came here and it’s worked a treat. That’s why I keep extending my stay. Look at me, I’m a different person. For the first time in my life I’ve got a suntan, although to be honest most of it is fake. I can’t stop slapping it on. I’ve been eating non-stop because the food’s so great here and now I’ve got some meat on my bones. And I’ve even done some exercise, although that was only learning how to do the trapeze at the circus school they have here. You should see me, I’m fucking great at it. You wouldn’t believe I could ever walk in a straight line on a rope, but I can! I’ve even been in the ocean. A few months ago I wouldn’t have dreamed of it because I wouldn’t have wanted to get my beehive wet. But now I’ve got my new short haircut and I feel like a new woman. Before I got here I was just like a zombie most days. But here I’ve got new zest for life as I’m off the drugs. All I’ve done is read books, sunbathe and drink cocktails. But it’s made me feel like concentrating on my career again. Most nights I’ve done a few songs on the piano for a laugh but I’m starting to think about recording again. I want to capture how happy I am right now in some new songs.”

Spending time with Amy is like coping with a hyperactive child. She never sits still and rabbits on, hardly stopping to draw breath. During one evening she changed her outfit twice and the following day changed her bikini FOUR times. However you cannot help to love Amy, she is if nothing - a lot of fun.

On Wednesday night Joshua’s grandmother gets the attention when Amy sits on her knee and takes to the piano for the THIRD time. “I love this woman like she’s my own nan!” declares Amy as she covers her in kisses, something she has a tendency to inflict on most of her fellow guests. Then in her instantly recognizable husky voice Amy sings Puppy Love, Cry Me A River and The Long And Winding Road as she plays the piano. Three hours of drinking cocktails have certainly taken their toll, however as Amy has shown before, even drunk she is an amazing vocalist. Several times Amy just stops mid-song and shouts: “Oh fuck! I don’t even know this one!”

Understandably she is not a hit with scores of other guests who came for a quiet break. Earlier this week Amy narrowly escaped being arrested when she threw a drink over one 27-year-old woman—a bride who was on her honeymoon! “I admit I did throw a glass of water over her,” she says. “I got confused and thought she’d been glaring at me that afternoon. But it turns out it wasn’t her at all—she was just trying to enjoy her honeymoon. She went mad and I don’t blame her. But I went over and apologised later. And if that’s the worst that’s happened I’m not complaining. For me, that’s being as good as gold!”

Movie Review: The Wrestler

THE WRESTLER

Director Daron Araonofsky has returned to the screen (after his latest the Fountain, and of course one of my favorite films of all time Requiem for a Dream) with the tale of Randy "The Ram" aka The Wrestler. In awards seasons, its a surefire bet that you will get a slew of fantastic films, with fantastic and memorable characters. However the Wrestler doesn't only give this -- in my humble opinion, it gives one of the most brutal, honest, and moving portrayals I have ever seen on the silver screen. Without Mickey Rourke this films wouldn't be .. he not only has made a comeback, he has turned in the best performance of his career, and a better performance than many actors could ever wish for.

To talk about The Wrestler, one should first talk about Mickey Rourke. If you delve into his biography you will see that Mickey himself was a boxer in his early 20's before his film career began. He was an amateur body builder, and stopped his budding career after suffering a concussion. He then turned to acting and early in his career worked with Stephen Speielberg, Francis Ford Coppolla, among other huge and respected film directors. Then his fame began in the early 80's with the film 9 1/2 weeks, co-starring Kim Basinger. He was a "sex symbol" for the masses. Then, as it seemed he was ripe to become a true A lister, Rourke got heavily wrapped in drugs and alcohol. He was locked up 3 times in the 80's for a variety of offenses, including violence and drugs. He has been in rehab a stunning 16 times, and finally became sober in 2003. He has been arrested for spousal abuse, two DUI's, and during his drug years he turned down numerous shots to revive his career (including lead roles in the Untouchables, The Silence of the Lambs, Rain Man, 48 Hours, and The Highlander). Director Alan Parker made this statement about Rourke, "working with Mickey is a nightmare. He is very dangerous on the set because you never know what he is going to do". And in 1991, as he continued to try rehab, he decided to leave acting and go back to boxing. He stated: "I have been self-destructing … (and) have had no respect for myself being an actor. I should stop." He actually did pretty well in the professional boxing arena, and won an astounding 14 matches to 1 loss. However he suffered many injuries: a broken nose (twice), three broken ribs, 6 broken toes, a split tongue, and a compressed cheek bone. Thus began the plastic surgery to correct these injuries, and it left Rourke looking like a different man. A broken down boxer - once sex symbol. Then Rourke, after sobriety in 2002 returned to the screen with the movie Spun, which was about the dangers of drugs, and was either loved or hated. Then he took an exciting action spin in Sin City, which was a welcome return -- and now here were are, with Rourke starring as the title role in the Wrestler.

The story of the film, in many ways mirrors the life of Rourke. Randy "The Ram" was a huge deal, 20 years ago, when he was the most famous wrestler in the circuit. A lot of time has passed and Randy now lives in a trailer (which sometimes he can't get into because he hasnt payed his rent), has a hearing aid from years of abuse to his head, and has no one. It seems his closest friends are the kids who live in the trailer park. He is stuck in the 80's, stuck behind his fame as Randy "The Ram". His walls are plastered with posters and photo's from matches, he still plays the origional Nintendo game that bares his likeness. The only thing that seems to keep him living is also the same thing that is cutting his life short: The Wrestling. On the weekends he still wrestles, however in a much smaller arena. It seems he has gone from an A list wrestler, to now a respected, but still D list wrestler. The movie is his attempt to find his life, and somewhat salvage what he has left.

The film does rely heavily on wrestling. I am not a wrestling fan, and I do not think you have to even like wrestling to like the film. (I believe Nicholas may disagree with me .. he didn't care for the movie very much) The Wrestling is mere backstory to whats going on underneath. Some wrestling scenes are similar to those you may have seen on the WWF (if you lived in the South or like such things). However some wrestling scenes, one in particular, was disgusting. I cringed and came near to just shutting my eyes completely at one scene which involved wrestling, barb wire, a staple gun, and tons of blood. But all of this gore isn't needless. It showing you something about Randy. This is a man who will conceal a razor in his costume so that he can take it out and cut his forehead so it looks as if he has been cut due to fighting. This is a man who will allow someone to use a staple gun all over his face and back. And for what? A little bit of money, and more importantly as Randy points out: The cheers from the audience. Its all he knows.

Within the film Randy tries to mend one relationship in his life and begin another. The first would be with his daughter, played masterfully by Evan Rachel Wood. Randy has been a horrible father who has deserted his daughter for most of her life. (Which is a stunning choice in the film not to paint Randy as a complete hero, but a realistic person) Randy returns to his daughter to smooth things over, and the two scenes the share with one another are among the movies best. The other relationship is a budding one between Randy and Pam, played by the unbelievable Marisa Tomei. Pam is a stripper at the local strip joint, where she is known as Cassady. She is in a weak spot in her life, being an aging stripper with a child and seemingly no way out of her situation. She and Randy connect beyond the levels of stripper and customer. The scenes between Rourke and Tomei (especially when they go thrift shopping, or when they sing along to 80's hair band music in a bar) are shining lights in the film.

However the film, as mentioned before, works only because of Rourke. The supporting players are wonderful, but it is Rourke that makes the film. He is in every frame of the film. We see him wrestle, try to love his daughter, try to get a girlfriend, work at a deli counter (in the movies funniest, and then most terrifying scenes), make a comeback, live in the past, suffer a heart attack, and perhaps even commit public suicide. I fear I have said to much, I will leave the rest up to you, the viewer. All I will say is give this movie a shot, if only for the performance of Rourke. He is the true comeback. This is his film. And he deserves it.

"I can't look at this movie and be proud of what I've done."

Daily Amy 2: Almost Fight in St. Lucia

Amy Winehouse narrowly escaped having the cops called on her yesterday while she was eating dinner in St. Lucia. She was making her way to her chair, and a fellow guest pulled her chair out in front of Amy blocking her way, Amy asked her to move and apparently the guest rolled her eyes. Amy then picked up a glass of water and dumped it on the head of the guest and pushed her aside to make her way to her table. When Amy found out they were going to call the cops, she went back to the table and apologized to the woman, and no cops were called.

It seems Amy isn't the most popular guest with hotel staff. Apparently they are ready for her to leave. One employee of the hotel said the following:

“She walks around in a bathing suit each day with her boobs on show, gets drunk, gropes waiters and is rude to male staff. She’s hardly the most popular guest.”

However the manager of the hotel where she is staying had this to say:

"We couldn't be happier to have Amy Winehouse staying at our hotel. She is a wonderful guest and has delighted us on a few occasions with her own singing and piano concerts. We hope she extends her stay with us for as long as she desires. She is always welcome."

Celebrity Apprentice 2 cast!!

If you knew me last year, you know I was LOVING Celebrity Apprentice. I used to like the show, the first 3 seasons, and then it became awful. But the Donald came up with the best idea ever: Take some B list celebrities and let them compete for charity, and BAM the show became #1 again. The cast list has been announced for this years go-round, and without further a due here they are, and the charities they are playing for:

CLINT BLACK
a country singer who always wears a big black hat. He's playing for International Rett Syndrome Foundation.

ANDREW DICE CLAY
a washed up old standup comedian, known for his drug problems. He's playing for Stand Up For Kids.

ANNIE DUKE
a proffessional poker player known as the #1 best womens poker champ. She's playing for Refugees International

SCOTT HAMILTON
2 time olympic gold medal winning figure skater, and now commentator. He's playing for The Cleveland Clinic Foundation

JESSE JAMES

Playing for:

CLAUDIA JORDAN
former Price is Right model, and now seen as case #16 on Deal or No Deal. HAHAHA! She's playing for NAPSAC Foundation.

KHLOE KARDASHIAN
she's Kim's sister and is on Keeping up with the Kardashians. Playing for The Brent Shapiro Foundation for Alcohol and Drug Awareness ... HAHAHA!

BRIAN MCKNIGHT
an old washed up singer. Playing for Youthville USA.

BRANDE RODERICK
a 3 time playboy playmate and centerfold. Playing for California Police Youth Charities.

DENNIS RODMAN

Daily Amy: Live at the Lounge

Amy Winehouse got back to singing yesterday in the hotel lobby where she is vacationing in St. Lucia. Late in the evening, Winehouse went down to the piano, browsed through sheet music, and played and sang for almost 2 hours. The small resort holds under 75 guests, and about 30 were listening to Amy all night. Some onlookers said this:

"She sounded amazing. I mean you hear a lot of things about her, and you get afraid she won't be able to sing again, but that's so far from being true. She sounded better than she does on her album. It was kinda miraculous."

"She looked healthy and better than she has in over a year. She was happy and sober and played the piano beautifully."

In attendance was her rumored new beau, Joshua Bowman. He stood near the piano and she sang certain songs to him. After she finished she ran to him and they hugged each other as the small but enthusiastic crowd cheered her on.

I WISH I COULD HAVE BEEN THERE!!
