Tom - 2 steps back

After a surprising Golden Globe nomination for his comedic turn in Tropic Thunder, Tom Cruise took a step forward in making a comeback, after a couple of rough years where scientology craziness and couch jumping took over his once shining career. His latest movie "Valkerie" was slated to etch his name back onto the A-List and jumpstart his return to the silver screen. However, it has pretty much failed at the box office and been ripped to shreds by critics all over the world - especially Tom's performance. Here are some excerpts:

NY Post:
"The only thing that can definitely be said about this cinematic "adventure" is that Tom Cruise, who has been damaged by his bizarre talk show behavior, may well continue storming the heights of the Scientology hierarchy as a Thetan, but his image as an actor has been finally ruined by Valkyrie, he is truly terrible. One could say worse than ever."

The Berlin Daily:
"It doesn't dare to be popcorn cinema and at the same time lacks any conceptual brilliance. The movie is just a mess all around. Not even the star quality from Tom Cruise, who seems bored and tired, can lift this movie above the feeling of a made-for-tv movie about the fall of Hitler."

San Fran Post:
"Tom Cruise might as well quit, his attempt at acting here is one of the worst performances this year, in one of the worst movies as well."

OUCH!
Nicholas wants to see this one, so I will go with him and judge for myself.

Nicole's sham marriage

We have all heard the rumors about Tom Cruise and his gayness and his fake marriages. A former Cruise assistant wrote a tell-all book last year which included such goodies as his agents, and Tom himself, held auditions for BOTH of his marriages. Calling in many actresses to be interviewed and briefed about Cruise and how their marriage was only to help boost both of their careers (and supposedly to make Tom look straight). First employee, er wife, Nicole Kidman has never said these accusations are true or false, however in an interview for the upcoming Glamour magazine she was asked about her marriage to Cruise and she responded with one sentence .. which says it all:

"It was my job to be seen and not heard."

BAM! Job .. employee .. fake marriage. I think we now know the truth from one who has been there!

He's out - She's In

This is one of my favorite movie news stories I have heard in years!! Tom Cruise had been attached to be the lead in the new spy thriller series "Edwin E. Salt" which was planned to be a trilogy to kick-start a comeback for his career (similar to his Mission Impossible run of success). However studio's are scared of his negative press and have axed him from the role, and from the three films. Who have they chosen to replace him? None other than Angelina Jolie! "Wanted" did so well this summer, and now became the highest grossing action flick with a female lead (even over Tomb Raider, which used to hold the top spot, also starring Jolie). So not only is she hot, successful, and talented: she is now the new lead of a 3-movie spy trilogy! CANNOT WAIT!
